Dictated speech to text December 11th 2022 8 years after moving home from college

Text

Not all of us leave

Escape is dreamy and romantic

Some of us take test flights

Attempts towards the Sun

Crashland in the Sea

We haunt our old back roads

Dictate the pain to the shadows

Headlights illuminate our faces

As we round the blind turn home

I still think about the boy who escaped

Every time I drive past his house

I ache when I near the backyard

Of a night of ended friendship

I follow the yellow lines

To my current apartment

About a half a mile away from the apartment where I slept behind the couch in middle school

There still aren't enough stop lights

To keep me safe here

But I know every route in and out of town

I've planned my own heist

Maybe one day someone will pull it off
