BALLAD OF A SOFT HEARTED BOY

Text

The ordinary ones

Move in a pack

Callous/calloused and cruel

Aloof and unfeeling

I long to be part

But, they see something in/about me

I don't see or understand.

I smile & try

And it scares them.

So I retreat into my

Tender

Sweet

World of powder pink dreams

Where everyone is kind

And sing and dance

And share.

But, I stand alone

Wings clipped.

Fairy dust jarred.

Buck up buttercup.

I lower my voice

And make no eye contact.

Maybe I'll pass.

But, the soft fragile glitter fueled boy still lives within me.

So, today.

Just for today.

I am OK with that.
