Text
I love you in whispers, in a secret kept beneath the sidewalk
where all the beauty I can muster carves channels under dark cover
In forgotten, unlit corners, rooting at spider’s webs, catching debris. I love you
in narrow moments, loud and fierce as
I break cracks in the concrete where we are growing
Knowing only that so far it has not been gentle
This warmth among us
I turn my soft belly to the sun
Stretch out, curl down into the earth, and open.
It’s important that I do this. I am hungry and the sun will nourish.
I am cold and the sun will warm.
We meet here, in this sun
Roots tangled far, far below
It is sweet, being seen, stretching out towards the coming
Rain. There is nothing narrow about
this new together.
