Text

Being queer saved my life1

It’s not just being queer, but the living queerly

I forgot the taste of should

And remembered how to breathe

To stop asking and asking and asking how and who to be

To stop looking for answers

And remember how to be happy

It was terrifying. To turn off the gravity

The guilt and the shame and the need for company

The questions I had been asking myself, demanding answers finally

But here I am under wide skies and falling stars, giddy, heart twinkling

Laughter made from clay and embroidery
