<text>
It’s a long ride to love,

I’m not sure it ever ends,

The stations blur by, disappearing as fast they came,

Each one separate, and desperate, in their aims,

And they are desolate, all the same.

Some stations glow a bright stoplight red,

Others are as black as an oil train,

Others radiate a dazzling lilac light,

that completely commands my pain,

But they are desolate, all the same.

I’ve gotten off at all these stations,

Some more than I should,

I’ve stood at the crack,

With bated breath,

Shivering,

Itching,

As the iron doors scream open,

A gateway to futures I cannot tame,

And they are desolate, all the same.

The light dances through the double-paned window,

Projecting evidence of life onto a callous concrete landscape,

And I look for it.

But the future sprouts out of the Earth it maims,

And it is desolate, all the same.

As the train slows down I hear it,

Deep down, I know I fear it,

That lonesome, loathsome, mournful song, drifting through my soul,

The warmth I seek, lies with the singer

or so I hope,

There’s no going faster than fate’s lazy lope.

& the plum ripens.

by day three, almost too much;

by day three I do not want to disappoint my girlfriend by bringing home the plum again

& so on my way home I decide to eat it -

I am hungry and I am guilty; it is almost wasted

& what a shame it would be when my girlfriend, who loves plums, has set this one aside for

me.

because it is day three and almost too late, when I bite into the plum it bursts,

an explosion,

thick sluice down my palms

across my glasses,

at the disaster it has become on my face,

& here I am, fists full

of fruit flesh

barely clinging to pit

nothing but my tongue to lap it up.

I laugh because this plum seems to know me in my secret

better than I could know myself:

knows of jealous need to be the special desired thing set aside for my lover’s mouth,

I want to be a plum in her mouth.

I want a bursting so ready

I come out my skin,

I want to be desired down to the pit,

to end tangy fibered between her teeth,

when she says she loves,

no really really really loves

Wound down a suburban dead end,

Where we put ourselves to bed

On a cul-de-sac’s asphalt bulb.

Yesterday’s heat rose through

Bodies sun-scorched and mosquito-stung.

Hands brushed, but

Even under midnight’s sheet,

It was too hot to do anything other

Than burn.

Another August, we

Pour from a theater lobby,

Gush over candied neon streets,

Leave glitter like breadcrumbs

There to here, a now

Spent stargazing on crisp grass – work-sore, sure –

But we breathe dew

Rejuvenating like watermelon

Ice breakers under the tongue.

We knot fingers to keep warm,

Walk home with arms chain-linked,

Cackling without shame.

              <text>
Today I am making breakfast with my headphones on and listening to sad music.

As I move through the kitchen, I feel the music move through me,

The mild sorrow, the melancholic drag. I am lamenting in the hurt

It is summer and I have air conditioning

They were born and raised in small town Wisconsin, drawing much of their inspiration from their experiences there. Their writing is an extension of themselves, their poems are a first-hand account of what it means to be them. It is a way of processing their gender, sexuality, experiences, emotions, and the way all of these things encapsulate the essence of who they are and who they want to be. They want to share their own humanity with those who struggle to see that in themselves. Regardless of what people in this community, or any community that feels outcasted, everyone has that humanity in them and it is beautiful.</text>
